The Art of the Grilled Cheese Sandwich

My inspiration for the week centered on something totally unexpected, a grilled cheese sandwich. For me the grilled cheese sandwich ranks in the top five all time comfort foods. It can be as simple as two slices of bread with a slice of Kraft American cheese, melted to perfection and eaten hot out of the pan. But this week I enjoyed a new twist on the GCS. It was made with Jack and Gruyere cheeses, arugula, a sprinkle of bacon and fig jam. What a delicious combination! The sweetness of the fig jam with the savory bacon and sharpness of the arugula was heaven.
I hope this inspires you to make your own GCS but it’s comforting to know the classic is always just as good!
