Vintage Clothing Size Guide

When shopping for vintage clothing online, it is best to look at the actual garment measurements for sizing rather than the tags, as marked sizes have changed over the years and can differ between designers. Also, many times this information is missing.

We carefully measure each garment to help provide you with the information you need. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us.

For best fit, we recommend that you compare the measurements we provide with a similar garment of your own. You can also compare them with your own body measurements. When using your body measurements as a guide, we would suggest adding an inch or so for fit.

How we measure

Tops and Jackets

  • Bust measured across the front from armpit to armpit. Double the measurement for size.
  • Length measured down the center of the back from the top neck seam to the bottom of the garment.
  • Sleeves measured down the underarm from the armpit to the end of sleeve.
  • Outer sleeve measured from the shoulder seam to the end of sleeve down the outside of the arm.
  • Shoulders measured between shoulder seams on the backside.
  • Center of Neck to Cuff measured from the back center of the neck down the outside of the arm to the end of the sleeve.

Dresses

  • Waist measured across the dress on the waist seam, or wear the waist would naturally lie. Double for size.
  • Hips measured across the dress at the fullest part of the hips (approximately 7-9 inches below the waist).  Double for size.
  • Sleeves measured down the underarm from the armpit to the end of sleeve.
  • Outer sleeve measured from the shoulder seam to the end of sleeve down the outside of the arm.
  • Shoulders measured between shoulder seams on the backside.

Skirts

  • Waist measured across the dress on the waist seam, or wear the waist would naturally lie. Double for size.
  • Hips measured across the dress at the fullest part of the hips (approximately 7-9 inches below the waist).  Double for size.

Pants and Denim

  • Waist measured across the bottom of the waistband on the back of the garment.

  • Inseam measured up the inside of the leg to the crotch seam.

  • Rise measured from the crotch to the waist up the front of the pants.

  • Hips measured across the pants just below the bottom of the fly. If the pants do not have a fly, the measurement is taken across the pants 1 inch above the crotch.

Shoes and Boots

  • Length is measured with the back of the heel against a wall. We measure the length from the wall to the toe tip.
  • Sole length is the measurement of length down the bottom of the shoe.
  • Width measured across the widest part of the bottom of the shoe.
