From Our Heritage Collection

This early 20th-century Ashanti stool from Ghana is hand-carved from a single block of wood. The gently arched seat rests on an open, architectural base featuring geometric cutouts and notched side columns. Traditionally, Ashanti stools were carved for both personal and ceremonial use, symbolizing status, ancestry, and spiritual continuity within the community. This vintage example shows a beautiful timeworn patina and smooth surfaces developed through age and use. With its graceful proportions and sculptural form, it offers a quiet, grounded presence—equally compelling as a historical artifact or as a decorative accent in a modern interior.
