An antique primitive captain’s chair distinguished by its beautifully worn old red paint and graceful wraparound back. Turned spindles, a broad wood seat, and slender splayed legs give the chair an expressive country form, while generations of wear have revealed warm natural wood and traces of earlier color beneath the painted surface. The exceptional patina and sculptural form give the chair a strong American folk presence.
In good condition with wear consistent with age and use. The painted finish shows extensive wear, loss, and surface variation throughout. The seat has age-related splits. Please see photos for details.
