This antique Argentine gaucho trunk brings together canvas, wood, leather, and riveted iron in a remarkable study of material and color. Bands of ochre yellow and deep olive move across the canvas-covered body, framed by dark iron strapping, decorative corner mounts, and leather side handles. Dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, its low architectural form and richly layered palette give it the presence of a found art object, compelling at the foot of a bed, beneath a console, or anchoring a living room.
In good condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is wear and loss to the canvas covering and painted finish, oxidation to the metal, and wear and losses to the leather handles and trim. The interior lining has staining, tears, and losses. Please see photos for details.
