Custom made by Max Wax at Fort Ethan Allen, Vermont for a Colonel stationed at the post, this wool coat carries its original order label dated February 14, 1940. The sculptural shawl collar and double-breasted front are balanced by military epaulettes, buttoned cuff straps and large patch pockets, giving the coat a particularly striking silhouette. Cut in khaki brown wool with a full satin lining, it is an extraordinary example of pre-WWII military tailoring that looks as compelling worn today as it does as a piece of design history.

CONDITION

In good condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is some scattered surface wear and light marks to the wool, with age and wear to the interior lining.
